Understanding Cultural Differences, Social Values, and Change

After the three of you have looked at each other's data, agree on how your selected ethnic group would respond to each of the five items in the Should The Child Be Taught Checklist in the Connect section of this WebQuest.

Then, as a group, respond to the following questions and e-mail your responses to be posted online

Which ethnic group in America were your researching?

What is that ethnic group's responses to the Should The Child Be Taught Checklist?

State a possible positive aspect of teaching the child each of the values of the ethnic group you researched.

From your comparison of the data from the various resources you used, are all the people in the ethnic group you researched similar to each other in their values? Are they different from each other in their values?

Now take a moment to reflect on your values. Look at the boxes you checked in the Should The Child Be Taught Checklist in the "Connect" section. Look at the values listed for your ethnic group on the listserv messages you have been getting. Compare the values you checked with the values listed for your ethnic group. Are they the same or different? What are your reactions to the values listed for your ethnic group? Do you feel they are an accurate portrayal of your ethnic group? Of your values?

E-mail your responses by typing "WebQuest Reflect" on the Subject line.
